Hello,
My name is Beáta Both; I am a neurodivergent multimedia designer passionate about colours, planning & mental health.
Colourific.Vision is an essential part of my story. It is the product I have been ‘‘secretly’’ developing, and it is the idea that evolved into something I did not know I needed. This is the story about how that happened.
2018 • Research
- The idea was born in 2017 and 2018 started with a determination to find a notebook supplier. I looked into various solutions, none of which satisfied me.
- During this, I researched the stationery market and created the preliminary designs by hand in a lined notebook.
- Then, I came across ‘‘The One Thing’’ book, The ‘‘Block Schedule’’ system, and the ‘‘1-page productivity tool’’ and started experimenting with colours.
2019 • Prototypes
- When I discovered the ‘‘Wheel of Life’’, I started thinking about life areas represented by colours based on how much energy each area required.
- After adding this logic to the designs, I ordered a prototype. During Q3, I tested & adjusted the design for the next one.
- The Q4 version got tested through different lifestyles, as I left my part-time job and jumped into a full-time startup position.
2020 • Pivot
- I started using a dot grid notebook and tested my layouts within the frames of ‘‘The Bullet Journal Method’’.
- Designed financial layouts, gardening spreads and content planners, all of which I tested as printable inserts.
- Soon, I became overwhelmed and started reading up on mental health. That caused the eventual pivot towards a neurodivergent brain focused planning solution.
2021 • All in
- After another short-term startup job, I decided to go all-in and focus on finalising my planning system full-time.
- (Psst! A UI/UX intern designed a stunning high-fidelity prototype, and an app developer intern created a functional one. More on this later.)
- In the autumn, I ordered a batch of paper pads, packaging materials and a few business cards and made a test sale at the local Christmas market.
2022 • Launch
- This year, I tested the paper pad sheets in a ring binder for additional flexibility. I like having everything in one place, yet still separated and mobile.
- Furthermore, other neurodivergent people began testing the sample packs used as planner pages and wall planners.
